Visitors to the popular Plaistow Youth Market, held at the Greenway Cycleway in Plaistow on Saturday 3 September were entertained by young people from the local branch of the Victory Youth Group (VYG).
The VYG youths put on an hour-long show of song, dance and spoken word entertainment, with solos, duets and group performances, in support of the youth market, which is designed to provide young entrepreneurs with a chance to sell their products and promote their businesses. In fact, one VYG member, Bianca Price, was a stall-holder, with her Sweet Pea range of ‘sweetly handmade gifts’.
VYG’s involvement with Plaistow Youth Market was the result of the good work of Kyle Lekha, Community Outreach Representative for the UCKG HelpCentre in St. Andrew’s Road, E13, and the organisers, Plaistow South Big Local (PSBL), who invited the youths to take part.
Kim Powell, the UCKG HelpCentre’s Community Outreach Coordinator said: “It was lovely to see the local MP, Lyn Brown and South Plaistow councillors Aleen Alarice and Neil Wilson supporting the event, and we very much hope that they enjoyed the VYG’s contribution. We certainly had a great day at the market.
“This is the second time that Plaistow VYG has made an impact in the area, having cleaned up a scruffy open space behind Lister School on Queens Road West in early July as part of its annual ‘We Care! – Youth Engagement’ initiative, and we are keen to continue the good work.”
