In Chhattisgarh, India, a young Christian was killed by a mob led by his own family, who did not accept his conversion.

The incident occurred in May, when a 22-year-old Christian named Kosa Kawasi, along with his wife, converted from Hinduism to Christianity.

Shortly after learning about the couple’s conversion, some members of his community attempted to expel them from the area. The couple also received death threats in an attempt to force them to renounce their faith in Jesus.

Tragically, a mob led by Kosa’s uncle and cousin eventually attacked the young man, fatally wounding him with a knife.

Reports indicate that Kosa had even reported the threats and persecution to the authorities, hoping for protection. However, no intervention took place, and his death was dismissed as “a property dispute”.

“Christian tribes live in fear and insecurity, even among their own families,” a local resident told AsiaNews.

Being a Christian and openly practicing one’s faith in India can be a personal risk, especially in remote northern villages. The situation has been further exacerbated during the current election season, which has seen a considerable increase in persecution of the minority Christian community in the region.

India currently ranks 11th on the World Watch List, which tracks the countries that persecute Christians the most globally.
