“And they brought Him to the place Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull…” (Mark 15:22).
The crucifixion of the Lord Jesus did not take place by chance or coincidence. He was led to Golgotha — a hill known as the Place of the Skull — and it was there, elevated above the city, that He was crucified.
You might ask, why a hill? Why not a quiet valley or hidden place? The answer lies in visibility and purpose. When someone lights a lamp, they don’t hide it under a basket – they place it where its light can be seen by all. Likewise, Jesus, the Light of the World, was lifted high for all to witness. His crucifixion wasn’t hidden; it was central, public, and unforgettable – a turning point in history.
Jesus came to bring light into the darkness, and that hill was a beacon of hope. If you find yourself in a dark place, unsure of how to move forward, lost or overwhelmed by life’s struggles. That same light is still shining for you. When you’re at your lowest, you have no choice but to look up.
Jesus was raised up on the cross so that, no matter where you are, you can lift your eyes and find help and most importantly salvation.
Whatever darkness you may be going through – whether it’s a broken home or emotional wounds – Jesus was lifted up to draw everyone to Himself (John 12:32). He has already taken your pain upon Himself, so you no longer need to suffer. Come to Him, and He wants to lift you out of despair and bring transformation to your life.
