On Saturday, 26th October, we gathered for the highly anticipated Breast Cancer Awareness event, “Together We Are Stronger,” hosted by the Patient Care Group. Held during ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month,’ this event reflected October’s international theme: “No One Should Face Cancer Alone.” Inspired by this message, we aimed to create a welcoming and supportive space, bringing people together to offer encouragement, raise awareness, and build solidarity for those affected by breast cancer and those seeking to learn more.
Two specialist cancer nurses, Nordia Walker and Nima Conteh; shared invaluable insights on early detection, common causes, cancer prevention, and treatment options. They also discussed organisations and resources available to support both patients and their families, reminding everyone that cancer impacts not only those diagnosed but also their loved ones.
To highlight unity, attendees joined in singing our theme song, “Together We Are Stronger.” This emphasised the spirit of community, with both women and men in attendance. For many, it was an eye-opener to learn that breast cancer can also affect men, breaking common misconceptions about the disease.
Following the presentation, we enjoyed light refreshments and engaged in a Q&A session—this provided attendees with the chance to ask questions, address concerns, clarify doubts, and dispel myths and fears about breast cancer.
The event saw a fantastic turnout, with 158 attendees present and additional participants joining remotely from outside London.
Reflecting on the event, Pastor David Osei, who oversees the community outreach work in the UK, shared, “I believe it is essential to educate people on topics that are often difficult to discuss openly. However, in an environment like the Breast Cancer Awareness event, it created a safe space for individuals to share and get support. The PCG has continuously worked to make vital resources and services accessible to the public, and we believe that this was another successful event. Many left informed and educated, reminding us all that ‘No One Should Face Cancer Alone’ because Together We Are Stronger.”
Thank you to everyone who joined and supported this cause, making this event a meaningful experience for all.
