According to the NHS, an estimated 4.2 million people in the UK – approximately 3 in 10 – could be unknowingly living with high blood pressure. This is especially true for those living in rural areas with limited access to healthcare services and for those who are least likely to have the condition, such as younger adults and people with generally good health, since they are more prone to neglecting health check-ups.
High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is a condition where the pressure in your arteries is excessively high. It’s often called the “silent killer” because it typically presents no symptoms but can lead to serious health complications if left untreated. Hypertension is a major risk factor for heart attack, stroke, heart failure, kidney disease, and other health problems. The risk of developing hypertension increases with age, affecting around 70% of people over 65. However, it can impact people of all ages, including children and teenagers.
When was the last time you checked your blood pressure? We cannot underestimate the importance of blood pressure check-ups since they can help identify hypertension early, allowing effective treatment and management to reduce the risk of serious health problems. The Bible describes our body as the temple of the Holy Spirit (see 1 Corinthians 6:19), so we should care of it as such. Don’t neglect your health, regardless of your age or physical condition. Get regular check-ups and try to maintain a healthy diet. This will increase your chances of living long and happy years!
