Over the past month, we have been exploring ‘The Tools of Intelligent Love’ in the Love Therapy seminars. Bishop James, who is responsible for the work of the Universal Church in the UK along with his wife, Helena Marques, has shared various tools that help in relationships and personal growth.
One tool discussed was the Plumb Line. In construction, a plumb line ensures that a wall is straight. Similarly, in our love lives, we must align ourselves with God’s principles. Another example was the Plow, representing the necessity of preparation—just as soil must be ploughed before sowing seeds, we must prepare ourselves for healthy relationships.
However, there are situations where no human tool is sufficient. What should we do when all efforts seem to fail? In these moments, the only solution is to turn to the Altar and surrender completely to God.
In the Word of God, the Altar symbolises the presence of God and the place of complete surrender. In the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, it represents a meeting point between humanity and God.” As Psalm 43:4 says:
“Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy…”
Going to the Altar means placing all our anguish and challenges into God’s hands. This is especially crucial when dealing with issues beyond human capability—such as emotional traumas, deep resentments, and pains that knowledge or effort alone cannot solve.
Even those who accumulate vast knowledge about relationships may continue to repeat the same mistakes because true transformation occurs from within.
The Altar is where these issues can be addressed. In the Bible, God instructed that Altars should be built without the use of human tools. This signifies that divine transformation does not rely on human efforts but on total surrender to God. The Altar is not just a physical place; it is an internal decision to trust God completely.
When human tools fail, the Altar becomes the only solution. By surrendering entirely to God, He is able to work where our strength cannot reach.
If there is an issue in your life that seems impossible to resolve, take it to the Altar. Write a list on a piece of paper of the things you should remove from your life and bring it with you this Thursday, 20th March, as there will be a dedicated time to lay it all on the Altar. God has the power to restore and transform any situation. Do you believe?
