The countdown is on as we prepare to celebrate 30 years of the Universal Church in the UK. To commemorate this milestone, we will hold eight special services. The first of these, The Night of the Disciples, will take place on Thursday, 6th February, at 8pm, led by Bishop Renato Cardoso at our headquarters, The Rainbow Theatre, in Finsbury Park.
The Night of the Disciples is open to all, including current and former disciples seeking an opportunity to return to the presence of God. This inspiration is drawn from the biblical parable of the Lost Coin, found in Luke 15:8-9:
“Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? And when she has found it, she calls her friends and neighbours together, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I lost!’”
In biblical times, women often wore garlands of ten silver coins as a cherished accessory. Losing one coin would leave the garland incomplete and tarnished. This parable illustrates the importance of finding what was lost, emphasising restoration and rejoicing.
In the same way, the church is like a family. Each member plays a vital part, and when someone steps away from the work of God, it’s as if a piece is missing. The Night of the Disciples is a call to action to seek out those who have drifted away and help them return to God’s presence.
There are many who want to return but are burdened by accusations, guilt, shame, or misunderstandings. They fear judgment and rejection, but nothing could be further from the truth. The joy of welcoming a returning family member far outweighs any past hurt.
The reception for those who return will be like that of the prodigal son—with open arms and great celebration.
Let God use you as a light to help guide these lost coins back home. Just as a soldier rescues an injured comrade and carries them to safety, we are called to help those who are spiritually wounded find their way back to the House of God.
This Night of the Disciples will be a blessing—a time for restoration, unity, and rejoicing. Together, let’s search for the lost coins and complete the garland once more.
