“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.” Psalms 23:1-3.
These were the words from David, a young man who, at the age of seventeen, put his faith in God and defeated the Giant Goliath. This was the same David who escaped king Saul’s spear on a number of occasions.
David referred to the Lord as his Shepherd. Back in Israel, sheep would follow their shepherd around. The green pastures, which are described in the verse were fresh grass that had grown in fields. Essentially, a shepherd would provide for the sheep by escorting them to eat and rest on the fields as well as drink from streams.
Are you walking with a shepherd today?
In today’s world, many people do not like the idea of someone telling them what to do or how to behave. This is pride! Sometimes, we do need someone to guide us like a shepherd does so, this way, we avoid making wrong decisions and walk down the wrong path.
Jesus is that Shepherd to those who believe and follow Him and He leads His people to the ‘righteous’ path. We must remember that what we need is not always the same as what we want.
Sheep are oblivious to where they are going but, regardless, they always follow their shepherd. Likewise, we too must put our faith in the Lord today. So, whether you’re facing financial difficulty or feel that something is lacking in your life, join us and follow the Lord at the Monday Green Pastures meeting.
Every week, we will walk across the green carpet, which symbolises the green pastures, to show that whatever we are experiencing, our Shepherd is walking alongside us and He will provide for us.
