Life often presents us with moments where faith is tested. In the Bible, the angel Gabriel appeared to Zacharias, a devoted priest, with a life-changing message. Gabriel assured him that God had heard his prayers and that he and his wife, Elizabeth, would have a son named John. This child would grow up to be a great prophet, preparing the way for the Lord. However, Zacharias struggled to believe the angel’s words. In response, Gabriel struck him mute, declaring that he would remain silent until the prophecy was fulfilled.
Now, reflect on your own life: How often have you prayed for something, only to later speak words of doubt that weaken your faith?
Starting Sunday, 2nd March at midnight, we begin the Fast of Zacharias—a 21-day journey of silencing negativity and speaking words of faith. This purpose is about aligning our words with God’s promises and taking possession of what He has prepared for us.
The Bible teaches, “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks” (Luke 6:45). If our hearts are filled with doubt, fear, and negativity, our words will reflect that—and so will our lives. Too often, we declare the opposite of what God says:
The Bible says, “Let the weak say, ‘I am strong'” (Joel 3:10), but we say, “I can’t do this.”
Caleb and Joshua were the only ones who entered the Promised Land because they refused to speak words of fear. Caleb declared, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” (Numbers 13:30)
For the next 21 days, we will commit to speaking only words that edify, strengthen, and align with God’s Word.
