In today’s world, where many people have drifted away from their faith, it has become more important than ever to understand how to defend and strengthen it. One of the most powerful tools for doing so is consistent engagement with the Holy Bible.
A study conducted by the Centre for Bible Engagement (CBE) provides scientific evidence of the profound impact that reading the Bible has on individuals. The research, which involved 40,000 Americans aged between 8 and over 80 years old, initially sought to understand how people’s biblical interaction influences their behaviour. However, the findings uncovered something remarkable.
The study revealed that reading the Bible once or twice a week had little to no effect. Even reading it three times a week resulted in only a slight improvement. However, when individuals engaged with the Scriptures four or more times a week, the changes were significant. The results showed that feelings of loneliness decreased by 30%, anger issues reduced by 32%, and bitterness in relationships—whether in marriage, friendships, or with children—dropped by 40%. Furthermore, alcoholism declined by 57%, spiritual stagnation reduced by 60%, and exposure to pornography fell by 61%.
The positive effects were even more striking. The act of sharing one’s faith increased by 200%, the formation of disciples grew by 230%, and the ability to retain God’s Word improved by an astounding 407%. These findings highlight the necessity of committing oneself to the Bible as a fundamental aspect of Christian faith.
Faith is key to pleasing God. The Bible says, “Without faith, it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6). That is why immersing yourself in the Word of God regularly is important for strengthening and defending our faith. Just as people train in martial arts for self-defence, Christians must equip themselves spiritually to face challenges. Without a strong foundation in God’s Word, faith can waver in difficult times.
To support you in this, we invite you to our Bible study series, “Defending Our Faith.” Now in its second week, these sessions take place every Wednesday at your nearest Universal Church, helping attendees grow in faith and stand firm in their beliefs.
