This past weekend, the world of Hollywood was shaken and also the fans of the series “Friends” with the news of the death of one of the actors, Matthew Perry. At the age of 54, he was found dead at home in a jacuzzi on a Saturday afternoon.
The actor had a desirable life working in this series, which is considered one of the most successful of all time. He earned more than a million dollars per episode he participated in and there were more than 230 episodes in the 10 seasons of the series.
In the professional field he was very successful, however what many are not aware of is that he battled more than 30 years against addiction (alcoholism and controlled drugs). In fact, he had almost died in an overdose a few years ago.
Ironically, he died without a “friend” by his side. He died alone in a life that was abbreviated and the cause of death is not yet known. It’s a premature and very sad death.
But even sadder, it is knowing that Matthew’s situation prior to his death is replicated by millions of lives around the world. As people continue to seek the many pleasures in the world to fill voids, they continue to be deeply frustrated.
For King Solomon himself also said that he, being the richest man in the world, gave himself everything that his heart desired and what he found in the end was despair. He hated this life and saw that everything is nothing but sorrow and vanity (Ecclesiastes 2).
