Sickle Cell Awareness Day

Sickle Cell Awareness

According to the NHS, sickle cell is an inherited blood disease that affects the shape of red blood cells, causing severe pain and anaemia. While it’s more common in people of African and Caribbean descent, anyone can inherit this condition.

In observance of Sickle Cell Awareness Month, the Patient Care Group (PCG) – a UCKG community group of volunteers available to lessen the burden of patients and their families through prayers, visits and spiritual support – will be hosting a Sickle Cell Awareness Event to raise public awareness about the disease in our local community. We will address its challenges and talk about available resources for those affected.

The event will take place this Saturday, 21 September, from 3pm to 5pm in Finsbury Park, 232 Seven Sisters Road, N4 3NX. Public speakers from the NHS and Sickle Cell Society will be present and anyone is welcome to join! If you know someone who is either living with sickle cell disease or wants to be more informed on this important subject, feel free to extend this invitation to them.
