And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all that I ever did…” (John 4.39)
Many people are the same when it comes to expressing their faith and truly believing in God, because they need to see and hear a third-party’s testimony.
Unlike the great heroes of faith, who only needed one word to be encouraged to depend on God!
We can cite the examples of Abraham, Noah and Daniel who heard the voice of God and, based on it, took action.
They were solely encouraged by the Word of God and nothing else! We can understand when a person who is recently coming from a world of unbelief and doubt has a certain difficulty to believe, but after experimenting with the power of God, he should no longer need another stimulus, beyond the Word of God.
Take a look at the continuation of the text: So when the Samaritans had come to Him, they urged Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days. And many more believed because of His own word. Then they said to the woman,
“Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.” (John 4.40-42)
This is when the penny dropped for them! They began to understand that building a life of salvation and victories depends on the trust we place in the Word of God, and that’s it.
What lesson can we take from this point of view?
– Those who say they’re Christian cannot invest in anything other than the Word of God.
– Those who proclaim this Word have to fight to conquer and not lose their credibility because, in this way, those who listen to them will have the Word of God as their only encouragement!
God bless you greatly!
