Cristiane Cardoso, Finsbury Park, Rainbow Theatre, Seven Sisters Road, The Love School, the need to sacrifice,
Tuesday 24th September 2013
The Love School event, which took place at Wembley Arena on Sunday 22 September, was a sellout. Over 11,000 tickets were snapped up by adults from all age groups, eager to learn how to maintain happy and supportive relationships over the long term; and every seat was filled.
The event was hosted by international TV personalities Renato and Cristiane Cardoso, in response to the long-term decline in marriage and high divorce rate in the UK. It drew on the hosts’ extensive experience in marriage counselling, and coaching, which they built up in the USA, UK and Brazil, and provided a venue for the launch of the English translation of their book, Bulletproof Marriage.
During the show it was announced that the Cardosos will be staying on in the UK to start off a series of seminars on marriage for anyone who wants to know more or who was unable to get to Wembley. Sessions will be held at 10.00 am each Sunday for seven weeks at the Rainbow Theatre, Seven Sisters Road, Finsbury Park, commencing September 29th.
Having been welcomed on stage by rapturous applause, Renato and Cris Cardoso kept the audience engrossed for two hours. Using anecdotes about difficulties they experienced earlier in their 22-year marriage and the solutions they found, the couple provided much food for serious thought.
“There is no such thing as a soul-mate and neither do people marry the ‘wrong person’,” said Renato Cardoso. He went on to explain that the trick is to look at yourself and how you are acting within your marriage, if you are in danger of separating and don’t want to hit the buffers.
The importance of good sex and the destructiveness of porn were emphasized; and Cristiane focused on the need to sacrifice and become a better person, as further important steps to marital happiness
Much of what they said – and which is covered in their book, Bulletproof Marriage – comes down to common sense and good manners. This includes such simple, but frequently forgotten matters as considering your partner’s needs ahead of your own and to listening to them properly.
The Love School event at Wembley was sponsored by the UCKG HelpCentre, a modern Pentecostal church that helps people with practical solutions to difficult everyday problems, with the aim of showing that marriage problems do not invariably mean years of misery or divorce.
