Those who believe that it is possible to be a Christian without the need to sacrifice, are very mistaken. From Genesis to Revelation, sacrifice is the foundation of Christian life as well as the foundation of walking with God. But many religious people who have their heart set on gold and not on the Altar are using Bible passages out of context to affirm that we shouldn’t sacrifice. However each of these passages, when read within its context, only reinforces the need of sacrifice. For example:

Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Obedience is better than sacrifice, a listening ear than the fat of rams.” (1 Samuel 15:22)

Do you know why God favours obedience over sacrifice? It is because obedience is the true sacrifice. There is nothing tougher for a human being to do than to deny the will of doing things his own way. This costs much more than simply losing something of value. The will of a human being is what drives him. The heart shows him the way to follow, and he follows. He depends on his will to make his decisions. People are accustomed to living life based on their own will; many can’t even imagine how they would behave otherwise. To give up on your own will and do the will of God means you recognise that He knows much more than what you could ever know. There’s no way that God can be someone’s Lord if they are still the Lords of themselves.

We cannot serve two masters. If you obey yourself, you disobey God; and if you obey God, you disobey yourself. If you please God, you annoy your heart. If you please your heart, you annoy God. There is no middle ground. God does not share His throne with anyone. Therefore sacrifice is necessary, because it detaches our will from God’s throne and makes Him the Master of our lives. Sacrifice puts things in their due place.Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.

If you truly submitted your life to God, you have surrendered everything. If you didn’t submit everything, you have not surrendered your life.

God bless!
