In Mark 11:14, we witness a powerful moment when Jesus approaches a fig tree, looking for fruit. When He finds none, He declares, “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.” By the next day, the tree had withered from the roots. This was no mere expression of frustration; it serves as a profound example of the power of faith-filled words and the authority given to those who believe.
This passage remains relevant to us today, especially regarding our health and well-being. Many people look at their physical, emotional, or even spiritual health and see only barrenness. Like the fig tree, their lives may appear full of leaves – representing numerous tasks and responsibilities from their busy routines – but lack true fruit, such as peace, well-being and a vibrant life.
When Jesus cursed the fig tree, He was teaching His disciples (and us) that situations that seem hopeless or beyond repair are not out of the reach of faith. He immediately follows this event with the teaching, “…Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.” (Mark 11:22-23).
In the same way, no matter how deteriorated or stagnant your health and well-being may seem, it can be revived. By using the limitless power of faith alongside any medical treatments you may be undergoing, you are empowered to confront and overcome the challenges that burden you.
However, faith does not simply mean wishing for change. Jesus demonstrates that faith must be spoken, declared and acted upon. Faith is not passive; it is active, alive and persistent.
