The Bible says, “…all things work together for good to those who love God…” (Romans 8:28). It’s quite common for people to complain, moan and ask “why?” when faced with a distressing situation. However, Psalm 119:71 states: “It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn Your statutes.”
Many people came to the Lord Jesus distressed and dispirited. They asked Him for help, and through getting to know and trusting in His Word, their lives were transformed by the power of faith. Jesus came to the world to save those who are distressed, tired, hurt and despised by society. So, when you find yourself in a distressful situation, remember: the Lord came for those who are suffering. All you have to do is call upon Him and, as a consequence, another Bible verse will be fulfilled – Psalm 50:15, which says: “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.”
God already knows all our needs, but when we present our problems to Him, we are practising our faith. When we call upon Him with all our heart and sincerity, He is always available to hear us, regardless of our mistakes. This is the secret of faith: we must have faith not only to gain but also to lose – and this includes letting go of the old life to receive a new one from God.
