Challenge: Discovering what you’re best at
Explanation: The majority of us hear a lot of negative comments from others. Since childhood we’ve repetitively heard things like “He’s too shy,” “He’s no good at math,” “His brother gets better grades than he does,” “Why are you so fat/skinny/ugly/short/fill in the blank____________?”
The worst thing is that these negative voices speak to us constantly; they play over and over again in our subconscious, and make us feel incapable and inferior, and make us doubt our own abilities. But these thoughts are far from the truth, something that King David understood. Take a look at what he said about this:
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvellous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. Psalms 139:14
We were fearfully and wonderfully made by God! Ask any doctor about the incredible structure of the human body or a neurologist about the complexity of our brain, and he will tell you in rich detail what David meant by the words in this Psalm. God does not create anything bad . It is impossible for you to be a totally incapable person, or be destined to fail, because God does not make anything like that.
And so, for this challenge make a list of your qualities as a person. In the last challenge, we identified the areas that we needed to work on, but in this challenge let’s focus on the qualities we already have, on what we are good at, in what ways are we very competent. You might be very dependable when it comes to completing a task that’s given to you. So on your list you should put: “Very dependable with any task given to me.” If people appreciate your punctuality, write: “I am punctual.” If your wife and kids view you are a good father: “I’m a good father.” And so on.
List at least 10 qualities, but feel free to write more if you want.
Your Intellimen Notes: Buy a notebook and make notes from each challenge you complete of the IntelliMen Project. Start by writing down your qualities from this challenge, and your goals from the last challenge. You should have easy access to your notebook so that you can keep track of your progress throughout the year. If you are a more digitally inclined IntelliMan and prefer keeping notes in your computer or smartphone, that is fine.
Official partner: This week, speak to your partner about the list of your personal qualities. What are your partner’s qualities? You may be able to suggest a quality or two that you see in your partner, but that he missed. How was the experience of listing your qualities? Hard? Easy? Do you both have some of the same qualities? How are you different? What qualities do you both wish you had?
Time period: You should begin this task immediately and you should complete it within a week.
Post: After, and only after you complete this task — buying your notebook or creating a file in your computer, and have spoken with your Official Partner — post your experience with this Challenge on the Intellimen Facebook or Twitter page (not on your own,) with this text:
IntelliMen Challnge #3 Done: the experience was… (finish with your own words)
