Moorfields Eye Hospital,
Have you ever heard of anyone going to bed being able to see and then waking up blind? If this happened to you, what would be your immediate reaction? This is exactly what happened to 29-year-old, Lauren Marshall.
“March 2021, was the start of an extraordinary month for me. I remember it like it was yesterday. I had a busy Sunday morning and went home to prepare for the week ahead; cleaned my room and went to bed. I woke up early the next morning and as the sleep wore off, I quickly noticed something was wrong: I couldn’t see anything out of my left eye.
I was in complete shock and fear because it wasn’t something that progressed over time, nor did I have any prior symptoms. I was in good health and did not know what was going on. I was immediately taken to the Moorfields Eye Hospital and the first protocol was to ensure my life was not in danger and to run some tests.
All the doctors knew was that I couldn’t see. Later, it was discovered I had bleeding at the back of my eye and usually sight is lost gradually, unlike in my case. The news that I would have to have an operation on my eye, left me speechless…”
