Think back to something you’ve worked tirelessly for. Have you thought of something? Now, recall the effort, sacrifices, and determination it took to achieve it—or perhaps you’re still striving for it.
People fight for many things—education, a new job, relationships, family, health—all of which are undoubtedly important. However, as Christians, there is one battle that should take priority every single day: the fight to protect your faith.
Why is this so crucial?
When faith is taken away, so is salvation, which disrupts one’s relationship with God. This is why knowing how to defend your faith is crucial.
Last Wednesday, we began a new study called ‘Defending Our Faith.’ This vital series of Bible studies is centred around the letter of Jude and highlights an important message for Christians: faith must be protected, for without it, salvation and our connection with God are at risk.
The Word of God Says: “Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ” (Jude 1:3-4).
Jude, the apostle of Jesus, initially intended to speak about salvation for the unbelievers, but he recognised the urgency of warning those already in the faith. He understood that faith could be stolen, and negative forces work persistently to achieve this.
Some tactics that are used to divert those from their faith are:
So, how do you defend your faith? Defending your faith does not mean engaging in debates or arguments with others as advised in 2 Timothy 2:23. But rather strengthening it daily and steering clear of anything that could weaken it.
The best ways to defend your faith is to actively use it and keep it pure, like the faith of a child. Just as children are taught simple things, and when faith remains pure, it can grow and develop. But if it becomes tainted, it can lead to serious problems. The most important thing you can do to protect your faith is to win your daily battles.
