In a world filled with endless possibilities and countless expectations, many are those who struggle to discover their true purpose in life. A survey conducted by Yakult in the UK and Ireland found that 87% of those aged 16 to 29 feel their lives “lack purpose or meaning.” This search can often be exhausting and frustrating, leaving many people feeling lost and unfulfilled.
The pressure to have a clear direction – whether in careers, relationships, or personal growth – can be overwhelming. Many who feel a lack of purpose may experience a sense of emptiness. They may go through life on autopilot, following routines without passion or fulfilment, or find themselves comparing their lives to others and feeling as though they are falling behind. This comparison, often fuelled by social media, can intensify feelings of inadequacy and frustration.
However, finding purpose is not just about achieving success or reaching specific milestones; it’s about living a life that feels meaningful and fulfilling. When people discover their purpose, they experience a greater sense of motivation and direction. Life no longer feels like a series of meaningless tasks because they begin to have something to look forward to each day.
This sense of purpose is also beneficial for mental health. Research published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology has found that a greater sense of purpose in life is significantly associated with lower levels of depression and anxiety. When a person discovers their purpose, they have a reason to get out of bed in the morning and the willingness to face any challenges that may arise along the way.
The question is, how do we find our purpose? There is no one better to reveal this than the One who created us. All of God’s creations are perfect, and He would never create anything without a purpose. Each of us has a divine calling, and we find true fulfilment only when we live by that purpose.
Have you ever asked God what His purpose is for your life? Ask Him, and He will certainly show you – not with an audible voice, but with a deep assurance within you. As Proverbs 19:21 states, “There are many plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless the Lord’s counsel – that will stand.”
