Debt can feel like an overwhelming storm, trapping individuals in a never-ending cycle of financial struggle. At times, the worst kind of debt isn’t just the numbers on a statement, but the emotional toll it takes – it can affect your relationships, peace of mind and your overall well-being.
Unfortunately, many people grow accustomed to living in debt, but the truth is, debt is a form of slavery. As Proverbs 22:7 states, “The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.”
You may be thinking, “It’s so easy to fall into debt, but how can I possibly take control of this storm?”
In Mark 4:35-41, we read about a storm that caught the disciples off guard. The boat they were in began to fill with water, and panic set in. Meanwhile, Jesus was asleep in the stern. The disciples overwhelmed with fear, woke Him, crying out, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” Jesus rebuked the storm, saying, “Peace, be still!” And with that, the wind ceased, and a great calm followed. He then asked, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” (Mark 4:40).
This teaches us a powerful lesson: when facing financial storms, we can either panic or trust in God’s promises. Our faith must be rooted in His Word, believing that His promises will come to pass. When we trust in God’s provision and follow His guidance, we can weather the storm and find our way out.
