Every year, during the winter period, the community groups of the Universal Church work together to provide extra care to their local communities through various projects and initiatives.
From hot food, toiletries and other essentials to pampering and a friendly chat, our volunteers are willing to go the extra mile to serve those who most need it, during such a challenging period.
Throughout the month of December, the Patient Care Group took time to show appreciation to hard-working NHS staff and patients through the Give Warmth Appeal.
Hand-written cards and gifts were distributed to both staff and patients in local care homes and hospitals, to remind them that they are not forgotten during this period, which for some can be much more difficult due to their current circumstances.
The Children’s Biblical Centre (CBC) prepared hand-written cards with a positive message and toys for children who would have spent the festive season in a hospital ward. This initiative was organised with the aim of bringing joy to the children and reminding them that they are loved and valued at a time when they often feel alone and neglected.
Similarly, on 22 December some of our volunteers visited the residents of a woman’s hostel in the London Borough of Islington. This visit provided the women with a home-cooked meal prepared with love, as well as a day of pampering. They also provided a listening ear to anyone who wanted a friendly chat.
It was a pleasant experience for both the residents of the hostel and the volunteers who have pleasure in giving back to anyone in need of support.
All those who volunteered on this day look forward to going back again in the future for further initiatives and the recipients of the support were very grateful for their efforts.
“It was a really nice experience overall and I enjoyed being able to give back to the community in a different way,” explained a volunteer who helped on the day.
All in all, the month of December at the Universal Church was jam-packed with the activities being carried out to give back to the community. And in the year of 2024, the volunteers look forward to serving those in need much more.
