From Captivity to Freedom: The Power of Holy Saturday

Freedom

On Holy Saturday – the day between the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus and His glorious resurrection – something deep and powerful happened in the spiritual realm. The Almighty descended into the depths of darkness and reclaimed the keys of death from Satan.

This victory is echoed in Jesus’s powerful words in Revelation 1:17–18: “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.”

These keys represent the authority that had been in Satan’s possession since the fall of humanity in the Garden of Eden. By taking them back, Jesus granted us freedom through His Holy Name. This was a divine rescue mission that opened the way for humanity to be reconciled with God, allowing us to live free from all negativity, fear and spiritual death.

You might be asking, “But if Jesus gave His life for our freedom, why are so many people still captive?” Indeed, many are still ensnared by emotional and spiritual chains, burdened by sadness, fear, trauma, family problems, illness, bad habits and financial difficulties. Peace may seem unattainable, and life may feel like an ongoing struggle.

However, while Jesus surrendered Himself to set us free, this freedom must be accepted and lived out – it must be claimed by faith. To illustrate, many people are entitled to benefits, but if they don’t claim them from their local council or other authorities, they will never be able to use them. The same principle applies to the spiritual benefits achieved through the sacrifice on the cross. The key difference is that, unlike physical benefits, these spiritual benefits are eternal.

This Saturday at 7am, we invite you to join us at your local Universal Church for a very special service. During this powerful gathering, there will be prayers for everyone who feels trapped, burdened or tormented in any area of life. It’s an opportunity to come before God and claim by faith the victory that the Lord Jesus won on that Holy Saturday so long ago – a victory that remains relevant for us today.

For those who are able, we also invite you to come fasting as a way to deepen your spiritual connection and intensify your prayers. In the Bible, fasting is described as a powerful act of humility and surrender that helps to silence the flesh and strengthen the spirit. When combined with faith and prayer, fasting becomes a spiritual weapon that aligns us with God’s will and opens the door to great victories.

If you or someone you know has been struggling to find true peace and joy, this service is for you. Let this be the day you step out of captivity and into the freedom that Jesus secured for you. Join us at your nearest Universal Church.
