UCKG HelpCentre Supports National Know Your Numbers! Week
UCKG HelpCentres across London and in Croydon, Luton and Swindon are supporting the Blood Pressure Association’s annual Know Your Numbers! Week, from 12 to 18 September 2011.
A total 35 qualified nurses – all UCKG HelpCentre volunteers – will be giving 267 hours of their time over Know Your Numbers! Week to operate blood pressure testing stations at 13 HelpCentres. Addresses and opening times can be found on the website universalchurch.uk/know-your-numbers.
It is important for people to know about their blood pressure because high blood pressure is a leading cause of heart attacks and strokes and can be a contributory factor in kidney disease, dementia and some eye conditions.
“This is why The Blood Pressure Association recommends regular blood pressure checks and consulting a GP if necessary, and we are keen to support them,” said Paul Hill, UCKG HelpCentre’s head of public relations.
“Everyone is welcome to drop in to our blood pressure testing stations for a simple, painless blood pressure check. You will also be able to learn about taking care of your blood pressure to prevent it from rising to unhealthy levels.
According to the Blood Pressure Association, this is easily done through such simple means as reducing salt consumption, eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, taking regular moderate exercise and drinking very little or no alcohol. The association also recommends regular blood pressure checks and seeking advice from a GP if necessary.
