A 60-year-old indigenous Christian was brutally attacked by his own son who did not accept the conversion of his family to the Lord Jesus.
The violent attack took place in Northern Vietnam, where the elderly man’s first-born son, whose identity was preserved, attacked him for not accepting that his father, mother and brothers had abandoned the village’s ancestral religion to follow Jesus.
According to information from Open Doors, before becoming a Christian, the elderly man faced many insecurities and desperately sought to find answers to his problems. That was when a friend introduced him to the Gospel of Christ and soon he and his family converted to Christianity.
With the conversion, the elderly man found peace and also discovered his purpose in life. However, the eldest son, aged 30, only found out about his dedication to the Lord Jesus months later and was overcome with fury, attacking his father.
The Christian was repeatedly beaten with a thick stick in the face and body. The attack caused serious injuries to the face and broken ribs after the attack by the son, who also threatened to report them to the village authorities, demanding that he and the rest of the family abandon their faith in Jesus and return to their ancestral religion.
Even in the face of the attack and threats, they decided to remain unshakable, even though the community in which they live believes that rejecting the religion of their ancestors is a betrayal and dishonour for the family.
“Despite what his son did, he maintains faith in Jesus. The family also remains in faith. Nothing can change his faith now, not even pain”, said the pastor, according to Open Doors.
The attack was reported to local authorities, but they treated it as just a family incident.
The Bible predicted these happenings in the book of Matthew:
“Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.” (Matthew 10:21-22 NKJV)
We can understand through these words, spoken by the Lord Jesus, that it will not get any easier to live out the Christian faith in this world. Which is why a close relationship with Him is essential, as He acts as our personal Guide, Comforter and Motivator.
