Friday 10th May 2013

Over 1,000 local people from many different ethnicities and backgrounds attended a Fun Day for Kids in the newly refurbished children’s area of the UCKG HelpCentre in Finsbury Park on Saturday May 4th.

The children who attended enjoyed a rich array of entertainments from face painting and competitions to a contemporary and street dance routine performed by a group of teenagers.  Many of them left with little hands full of balloons, party bags and prizes.

The Fun Day, which was the first such event ever in the former Rainbow Theatre, was managed and run by Erika Lima, national head of CBC.  She was assisted by over 100 qualified volunteers including First Aiders.

Mrs Lima said: “Without a doubt this was a complete success.  It was a great opportunity to meet members of the local community from the immediate Holloway Road area as well as from further away.

“We were especially pleased to welcome people who had never previously set foot in the HelpCentre and were unaware of the good work we do in helping children to recognise right from wrong.”

Feedback on the event from volunteers and participants included the following comments:

Marie Motondo, Highbury.  “The Kids Fun Day was aaaaamazing… a lot of work but it was all worth it, seeing the children and the parents having fun. We had people from all sorts of backgrounds that enjoyed the performances and the overall work of the CBC.”

Miss Rosemond, London.  “My niece came with her two children. It was so exciting to see the kids and the parents in the queue for face painting and their happy faces at the end with their party bags.”

Lisa Hodgkinson, Finsbury Park. “There were so many people from different walks of life. It was all about giving.”
