The soup kitchen,
The outreach arm of the Universal Church spans over several different initiatives. From the Night Angels who on selected Friday evenings, head to the streets of local areas equipped with bags containing food, warm clothing, and hygiene items with the intention of assisting those sleeping rough. To the Soup Kitchens that welcome people of all backgrounds within the local community to enjoy a light meal on a weekly basis – where we also offer groceries to take away.
Last year our Night Angles reached 2034 homeless people, and around 2831 pieces of warm clothing and essentials were donated to those less fortunate, we were also able to reach over 35,000 people through our Soup Kitchens and more than 47,000 people benefited from our food bank. We are grateful to be able to count on the support of our volunteers in making these great things happen! Our volunteers are an integral part of our outreach work, and here is what they have to say about the work they do.
“There’s something humbling about being able to help others, the experience is like no other. Being able to volunteer at the Soup Kitchen, meeting different people and some regulars and seeing the smiles and happiness of those who come, is priceless. It’s such a pleasure being part of this great work. We may not be able to feed an entire nation, but we are feeding our community one plate at a time.”

“It’s been an amazing experience being a part of the Night Angels work. I’ve been able to dedicate my time to giving food to those on the streets, to going to the bridges to leave hopeful inspiring notes, that someone in need could see and use to eventually give the help centre a call. Nothing beats that.”
