Are you running out of oxygen?

It is not hard to find people who give up on a dream or project because it has become so hard to keep going, some even lose all hope and give up on life itself. A lack of prospects or uncertainty about the future is what makes them doubt that they can achieve the life they desire. That is why people give up and, unfortunately, this trait has become common when it comes to faith.

‘Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.’ (Hebrews 10:38)

When we talk about faith, we are not talking about the walls of Jericho collapsing or the Red Sea being divided, even though these events only took place because faith was manifested through action. Faith is the oxygen of the Kingdom of God: it’s not to be used only once in a while when we think we need it. It is a constant necessity and that is why the life of a Christian cannot only focus on miracles or the physical achievements that faith can provide – that would be very immature and a grave mistake if that was all our faith was used for.

What God wants from us is spiritual maturity. He wants people whose faith remains strong in Him regardless of the blessings they may or may not receive. How many people ceased being faithful to God just because they did not receive the blessings they were expecting? It is like a diver cutting off his oxygen supply just because he couldn’t find what he was looking for in the bottom of the ocean.

Living by faith means more than conquering material blessings. Our salvation comes before prosperity, healing or anything else – just as Jesus healed, prospered and restored but never wavered from His priority, which was to bring us salvation.

Without a constant faith, our connection with God is broken. Many people are dying spiritually because they lack this ‘oxygen’, and what makes them lack oxygen is sin. When we sin, we have a heavy conscience and, spiritually, we are gasping for air – dying slowly.

When we live by faith, we are living in obedience to God’s will and have communion with Him. It means that we have a clean conscience, and that, in turn, strengthens us to keep moving forward because nothing accuses us, and we have no space in our minds for doubt.

This is the kind of faith that saves.
