“Thus you shall separate the Levites from among the children of Israel, and the Levites shall be Mine.” (Numbers 8:14)

God had the care to choose a whole tribe of Israel – the Levites – to be completely separated from everyone else and to dedicate themselves in service to God. Those people became an actual offering to the living God.

Just like the Levites, the moment we are called by God to serve Him we begin to invest all our time, effort and dedication in knowing how to please Him and serve Him better. It is natural that when a person receives this calling, they lose interest in personal endeavours and achievements and begin to think of only one thing: “How can I lead others to my Lord?”

This is why the Levites had one responsibility only: To serve the Most High. They even abdicated the chance of a portion of the Promised Land, because their reward of serving God was greater than anything that their eyes could see or their hands could touch.

Today is no different. There is no greater privilege than serving the Lord Jesus, but in order for Him to use us, we have to make ourselves completely available to Him as the Levites did. They didn’t divide their time between the Tabernacle and personal endeavours. One hundred per cent of their time and effort was in seeking what God wanted from them and then putting that into practise.

Remember what the apostle Paul said: “No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.” (2  Timothy 2:4)

Servants of the living God are like soldiers. Just like a soldier’s mind is completely engaged in the mission at hand, focusing on survival, the same goes for us. But our focus, our survival is our SALVATION. Serve God, and above everything keep your salvation.

“Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown.” (Revelation 3:11)
