Is sugar ‘the new crack cocaine’?

A recent Daily Mail article warned that dependency on sugar is becoming increasingly alarming, and is claimed to be ‘as dangerous as alcohol and tobacco’.

A dependency on the sweet stuff is so severe that ‘weight-loss expert Dr Sally Norton compares sugar to crack cocaine. With any potentially addictive substance, the more its consumed, the more a person’s reward receptors get numbed to it – so we look for even more to re-create that ‘high’.*

This is what happens with drugs, this is what happens with alcoholics, and now, as has been identified, this is also what happens to people with a sweet tooth.

We know that our diet, depending on what we consume, either contributes to our wellbeing, or lack of it. The absence of self-control and the inability to manage well-balanced eating habits is what leads to a great number of health-related illnesses. Type 2 diabetes, cancer and heart disease, for example, are but a few to mention, but are all consequences of consuming too much sugar.

In order to live a long and healthy life, we must do what is necessary to keep our bodies in top form, from the inside out. We owe it to ourselves and to our loved ones to make sure we maintain the body that has been gifted to us.

Why not try adding healing prayer as a part of your daily health routine? Prayer does not always appear to work, but it can; and that you cannot escape the fact that modern medicine, for all its amazing achievements, is far from being 100 per cent effective.
