AN IDEAL

The definition of an ideal,

AN IDEAL

The Holy Spirit recently used Bishop Macedo to talk about the ‘ideal’ that those who are true disciples carry within them.

The definition of an ideal is: existing only in the imagination; desirable or perfect but not likely to become a reality.

The first thing about ‘an ideal’, as the grammar itself implies, is that a person can only have one ideal. That’s why if a person fights for an ideal of saving the planet or fighting against animal cruelty or ending world poverty, etc. this is all you’ll ever hear them talk about with great passion at every opportunity they have. I’ve never seen someone fighting passionately for two ideals, have you?

The other important point is that, an ideal is something that you know might not become a reality but you still fight for it. A person who fights against animal cruelty knows that they may never fully eradicate animal cruelty, but that won’t stop them fighting for it.

When we look at the sphere of faith, these same two rules also apply for those who are true disciples and carry within them the ideal of saving souls.

1. We know we may never save every single soul, but we will give our whole life and every ounce of energy trying to do so. And our soul is filled with joy when we are able to save even one soul.
2. Being that we can only live and breathe one ideal at a time, we don’t waste time on anything that will take our focus away from the goal we received when we had our true encounter with God: TO SAVE SOULS

Over time, we have been seeing many people who have started to veer away from their calling, because they have taken on new ideals; not realising they are losing sight of what God called them to do.

“But Jesus said to him, ‘No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.’” (Luke 9:62) The Lord Jesus shows us here that it is physically impossible to keep our hands on two different plows at the same time.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that causes in this world are as noble and worthy as the one that the Lord Jesus anointed us for: Saving souls, and saving our own also.
