Holy Week

Palm Sunday,

A lot can happen in one week. Lessons can be learnt, wrongs can be made right, and lives can change.

Jesus proved that a week could bring about a new beginning during the seven days leading up to His death and resurrection, what is more commonly known as Holy Week.

Holy Week begins with His entrance into Jerusalem – the triumphal entry – on Palm Sunday and is marked thereafter by a series of poignant events that are revered by Christians all over the world.

Everything that Jesus did had a purpose, and His aim was always to teach and give people a chance to receive the life that only He could offer. Throughout the Holy Week, He set examples for all of us to learn from and follow.

Maybe you have been longing for your life to be different, to be new. You have searched down every avenue but always seem come to a dead end. Why not allow God to do something new in you?

Join us at your local UCKG branch for the Holy Week from Sunday, 28 March to Sunday, 4 April. In every meeting throughout the week, we will extract lessons from each event that took place and discover how they can be applied to our own lives to change it for the better.

Many people were not the same again during the Holy Week when Jesus was there with them. He impacted their lives greatly and He can do the same for you today!

 

Sunday 28th March – Triumphal entry

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of the Holy Week.

‘The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ The King of Israel!’ (John 12:12-13)

In the same way Jesus entered victoriously into Jerusalem, let’s determine that He will enter triumphantly in your life.

Monday 29th March – Purification of the Temple

‘Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who sold and bought in the temple and overturned the tables of the moneychangers and the seats of those who sold doves.’ (Matthew 21:12)

Jesus overturned the tables of people who were misusing the Temple. What situation do you have that is unsatisfactory and needs to be overturned in your life?

Tuesday 30th March – Cursing the fig tree

‘Jesus said to it, ‘May no one ever eat fruit from you again.’ … In the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots.’ (Mark 11.14,20)

Wednesday 31st March – The Last Supper

One of the great teaching of Jesus, which contradicted the pride and stubbornness of the religious authorities of the time was humbleness, walking in righteousness and taking care of our neighbours. This lesson Jesus taught well when He washed His disciples’ feet:

‘If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.’ (John 13.14)

Thursday 1st April – The anointing at Bethany

‘Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.’ (John 12:3)

This woman surrendered what represented her life because she esteemed Jesus above all. What is the alabaster jar of your heart?

Friday 2nd April – Good Friday

On this day, Jesus endured the pain, shame and false accusations, loss, condemnation, mockery, beating, abandonment and all suffering so that today we don’t have to.

‘He was wounded for our transgretions, he was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we were healed.’ (Isaiah 53:5)

Join us for the service at 3pm, to nail your problems to the cross and determine that ‘it is finished’ in your life.

 

Saturday 3rd April – Setting the captives free

Though Jesus died to save all, many still are unaware of this truth. We will reach out to those who are still captive so that they may receive true freedom. ‘For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.’ (1 Peter 3:18)

Sunday 4th April – Resurrection Sunday – The Lord Supper of Decision

The grandest day of all! Jesus arose from the dead and brought with Him the opportunity of salvation to all those who believe in Him. ‘Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen!’ (Luke 24:5-6)
