Seniors Pampering Day at the Rainbow Theatre

Christian Church, Christian faith, Finsbury Park, Hackney, Highbury and Islington, North London, Rainbow Theatre, Seven Sisters Road,

Thursday, 27 October 2011

Salome Aleku and Ignatius Hango who lead the Seniors Group at the UCKG HelpCentre will be welcoming a host of older ladies and gentlemen to their 2011 Seniors’ Pampering Day on Saturday 5 November.

Doors open at 12pm at the Rainbow Theatre, 232 Seven Sisters Road, Finsbury Park, and the event finishes at 5.30pm. Admission and refreshments are free; and the group is particularly keen to attract people who live alone or have little genuine social contact.

“We expect to attract seniors who are living within approximately five miles radius of the Finsbury Park branch, drawing people from such areas as Dalston, Hackney, Tottenham, Highbury and Islington, and Camden as well as the immediate area. But if anyone takes the trouble to travel from further afield, we will be very pleased to see them,” said Ignatius Hango.

Salome Aleku added: “The seniors will be able to walk in and be pampered from head to toe, on a first come, first served basis. Qualified beauticians and hairdressers from our congregations in north London will be on hand to give beauty treatments, manicures, pedicures and to trim hair and supervise other volunteers from our HelpCentres.

“A qualified nurse, also a HelpCentre volunteer, will be on hand to check the seniors’ blood pressure if they should wish.”

The UCKG Seniors Group is run by volunteers in order to help and improve the quality of life of senior members of the community irrespective of belief, status or cultural background.

The services it offers range from advice sessions to hospital visits and help with shopping and house cleaning. It also holds regular social activities such as seaside outings, dinners and quiz competitions, recognising that many older people live alone and may appreciate opportunities to get to know other seniors in their local community.
