What is your biggest fear?

Biggest Fear

Anyone who claims to have no fears is likely not being entirely honest. While some people may experience it more intensely than others, everyone has fears – such as being mugged, having an accident, or contracting a contagious disease. Common fears also include flying, losing a job, being cheated on, dying, losing a loved one, and fear of failure.

Having fears is normal, but the critical question we should ask ourselves is: how do we handle our fears? Do we freeze in the face of danger, or do we confront what terrifies us? When fear arises, the solution may be to seek strategies that foster courage or find inspiration from those who have faced and overcome their greatest fears.

The Bible recounts the journeys of several heroes of faith, describing how they proceeded to achieve their victories. One such hero is Gideon, whose story is found in the book of Judges. God instructed him: “Arise, go down against the camp, for I have delivered it into your hand. But if you are afraid to go down, go down to the camp with Purah your servant, and you shall hear what they say; and afterward your hands shall be strengthened to go down against the camp.” (Judges 7:9-11)

This verse highlights that even after God promised him victory, Gideon still felt fear. It’s important to remember that the heroes of the Bible were just like us – human beings subject to emotions. However, God patiently helped Gideon develop the courage he needed to take action. It’s natural to feel afraid when confronted with challenges or uncomfortable situations. Yet, when we trust God in the midst of fear, seeking His Spirit, we receive divine courage to face our fears and overcome any obstacles that may arise before us.
