The benefits of doing a spiritual fast

Fasting

Various studies have proven that there are countless of benefits to fasting, such as disease prevention, improved gut and heart health as well as supporting blood sugar management.

These are all physical benefits to implementing fasting into your weekly routine, but did you know that when combined with faith, fasting produces spiritual benefits? Keep reading to find out what they are.

Fasting is a way for you to deny your human desires and connect your spirit (mind) to God. Just as eating is a matter of survival, abstaining from this need for a few hours demonstrates our dependency on Him and invites Him to deliver us from trouble.

We see in Ezra 8:21 that the people of Israel would fast as a way to humble themselves before God and seek His direction.

In fact, during His time here on earth, the Lord Jesus taught us one of the greatest weapons to overcoming the attacks of negative spirits – the combination of prayer and fasting. When He was being tempted by the devil in the desert, fasting and communion with the Holy Spirit empowered Him to endure and overcome.

“However this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” (Matthew 17:21)

Considering all these benefits, why not give it a try? You are invited to attend one of the services today at your local Universal Church and open a fast beforehand to fight against all negative spirits.

It is important to note that it’s not about the length of time that we fast for, but our faith so even fasting for 3-6 hours is enough to produce your desired results. You are advised to always follow your doctor’s advice, so if your health doesn’t permit you to fast, you can still come to the service with the aim to combat your problems.

We will be continuing the ongoing 7-week purpose, “the 7 Fridays of the Spirits of God” where we will be fighting against the spirit that blocks the understanding. Bring your chain of prayer card, we will be placing your name inside of the oil (representing the Holy Spirit).
