Is true love simply a thing of the movies, or can finding your life long partner be achieved? With divorce rates estimating at 42 per cent in the UK, finding a compatible partner may sound like a task out of your depth. But what is the reason behind this many marriage failures and what can you do to avoid being a part of the statistics?
Research shows that the most common causes of a marriage breakup include, adultery (14%), separation (40%) and unreasonable behaviour (45%). The most common reason for divorce (unreasonable behaviour) covers a number of aspects such as, refusing to pay for household expenses and other disagreements.
However, these reasons can all be summed up to one word, the root behind unhappiness in relationships – stubbornness.
In the book, Bulletproof Marriage, the authors explain that stubbornness is “what causes husbands to declare that they will not change, even when they see their marriage going down the drain. It’s what causes wives to be set in their ways, refusing to listen to the requests their husbands are making of them”.
For a marriage to work, it must consist of two people who are willing to recognise their mistakes and work on becoming better for one another. This self-investment can be done at the Love Therapy meeting which take place every Thursday.
