a Christian church, local food banks, UCKG HelpCentre,
Friday, 15 September 2017
As winter approaches, the UCKG HelpCentre has launched its first national food collection week, starting Monday 18 September, and is asking its members for donations to help stock many of the country’s food banks. This recognises that, even among hardworking families, food poverty is now a major issue in the UK.
The headquarters HelpCentre in Finsbury Park and another 27 branches of the Pentecostal church and charity are asking members to donate food items for their local food banks throughout the week, with the emphasis on non- perishable items.
Local community outreach coordinators in the branches have made contact with their local food banks, working mainly with the Trussell Trust, and have obtained a list of the items most needed, which they are sharing with members.
The general public are also welcome to contribute, and foodstuffs may be delivered to participating UCKG HelpCentre branches between 7am and 10pm.
Michael Boodram, the UCKG HelpCentre’s Head of Community Groups responsible for the appeal said: “I encourage all our members and friends to give generously, since such donations can be life changing. Everyone needs a full nutritious meal daily; it’s a basic human right. This is why the UCKG HelpCentre has been moved to do this event in its branches in the UK, and we are hoping for a generous response.”
