a skill or a talent, competitions, Galápagos Islands, photo, tend to forget,
12-year-old Kate Anderson won with her photo of a new ostrich chick in front of a miniature microphone. She named the photo “Owning the stage.”
We were all born with a particular talent. Whether it is creative or intellectual, we all have a unique innate ability within us to do something special. However, as we get older, many of us tend to forget our abilities.
Talent is timeless and can be showcased at any age. For example, the National Geographic, which is known for holding photography competitions for adults, decided to launch a competition specifically for children aged between 6 and 18 years of age. The competition required youngsters to take pictures that inspire them. The results were staggering. Editor-in-Chief of National Geographic Kids Magazine, Rachel Buchholz, said “The quality and quantity of this year’s entries truly blew us away”. Twelve-year-old Kate Anderson came first in the competition and won a 10-day trip to the Galapagos Islands.
Dewi Baggerman from the Netherlands, won the global side of the competition with this picture of tulips.
Riley Harlan, 12, took this photo in the high mountains in Japan where there are 10,000 gates still to be explored.
Ten-year-old Jenifer Jayne Evans Koumbatis took this photo of a dog leaping out of the ocean in the Netherlands.
As you can see, age is just a number when it comes to using and exploring your talents. These young kids have showcased what they can do and are sure to have bright futures ahead of them.
What about you? Do you have a skill or a talent that you are just itching to explore, but do not think you are capable? No matter how old you are or where you are in your life, as long as you are alive and breathing, the opportunity to use your talents and skills will always be there. So why don’t you try something different today? Even if it is something small, take the time to discover or re-live your abilities and take hold of your talents. If these young children can do it, there is no doubt that you can too!
