7 signs of pride

Pride is subtle, so much so a proud person can hardly recognise their pride; in fact, they may even think they are humble!

It all started with Lucifer. He was a very important angel in heaven, God had given him a position above many other angels, but that was not enough for him, his pride questioned his position as he found himself worthy of being like God. He created a rebellion among the angels and so God had to kick him out of heaven along with all the angels who rebelled with him. Lucifer was an angel who became the devil. This is the origin of pride; that is why sin is rooted in pride.

A woman who commits adultery was proud at some point, when she didn’t want to be vigilant, because she thought she could sin and then ask for forgiveness. Because sin does not just happen, it always has pride as its origin. While you don’t recognize it in your life, you will be vulnerable to it. Those who recognise their pride can fight against it, but those who do not recognise it cannot fight against it.

We spoke about this subject in a recent Godllywood Self-Help meeting and we gave 7 behaviours that a proud person may have, although there are much more than seven. Here is a reminder of them:

1. A proud person does not recognise their mistakes and does not accept to be rebuked. They do everything to not be rebuked, and apparently it’s because they don’t want to displease or disappoint anyone but in reality, they don’t want to go through the humiliation of being disciplined.
2. A proud person does not ask for help. But when they ask it is usually too late, because they resisted until there was no hope. And by this time, usually she has already made the wrong choice. Sinned against God and even separated from her husband.
3. A proud person does not ask for forgiveness. They may even regret it, but are unable to expose their repentance, because it’s humiliating for them; they prefer to pretend that nothing happened.
4. A proud person does not submit easily. They may be submissive but only to those who have authority over them. Many wives do not accept to submit to their husbands, daughters don’t accept to submit to their parents, young people don’t accept to submit to their elders, newbies don’t accept to submit to the most experienced.
5. A proud person likes their independence; in fact, they hate relying on others. They like to do everything on their own, so that they don’t have to say that they needed someone’s help. They are independent even from God, they don’t pray or seek Him, they think they are self-sufficient.
6. A proud person wants everything their way because they think they know what’s best, they understand what’s best, and know what’s best. They don’t want to know God’s will and sometimes insist that they’re “using their faith” and they know what they are doing. And when they don’t receive what they asked God for, they revolt against Him as if God were in the wrong.
7. A proud person likes to give their opinion about everything, they don’t like to take nonsense from anybody, and they don’t hesitate confronting someone to say what they think is right.
