While infidelity and money troubles are common reasons for divorce, some marriages end over surprisingly small disagreements.
For example, pets—usually a source of joy—can cause tension. One in twenty divorces involve pet-related conflicts, from allergies to disagreements over care. In one case, a husband divorced his wife because she refused to give up her noisy parrot.
While gaming can be a harmless hobby, excessive screen time can create a wedge between partners. Around 5% of divorce cases mention gaming as a problem. Social media, too, plays a significant role in relationship struggles, with one in seven divorces linked to online disputes. Even a haircut can end a marriage—one woman left her husband because he refused to cut his long hair.
Many couples think their marriage is fine—until problems suddenly appear. Even when things seem good, neglect can slowly create distance.
While betrayals or abuse are unacceptable, most marital conflicts stem from everyday habits and misunderstandings. The key to a lasting marriage is learning to love each other despite imperfections.
The Bible offers wisdom on this in 1 Peter 4:8:
“And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”
This doesn’t mean ignoring serious issues, but rather choosing to be understanding. Everyone has flaws for example impatience, forgetfulness and other traits that may frustrate our partners. It’s easy to focus on what bothers us about our spouse, but have you considered the aspects of your personality that they endure out of love?
A strong marriage isn’t built on luck; it takes love, effort, care and persistence. Many fail because partners give up too soon, forgetting that love requires work.
That’s why, on Thursday, 20th March, for this week only, the Love Therapy seminar will take place from 8pm to 9pm, followed by an exclusive meeting for married couples from 9pm to 10pm.
