Charitable organization, Christian faith, Regents Park, registered charity, sporting and musical activities, supporting prison inmates and their families,
Wednesday 11th May 2011
On Sunday May 15, 50 volunteers from the UCKG HelpCentre in Kilburn and sister HelpCentres in other parts of London will take part in the 2011 Do It for Charity – 5k RUN in Regents Park.
“Their sole aim is to raise the £250,000 urgently needed for phase 1 of a major refurbishment project and urgent repairs to the HelpCentre, which occupies the former National cinema building in Kilburn,” said Marco Andrade UCKG’s fundraising coordinator.
Easily recognised by its distinctive dome The National was the largest cinema in Europe with seating for 2,028 people, when it was built by Edward A Stone in 1914. “The grade II listed building now requires critical structural repairs and works to strengthen and add flooring space to enable us to make even better use of the building,” Marco added, “so all sponsorship will be greatly welcomed.”
The UCKG HelpCentre is a Pentecostal church and registered charity that helps all-comers, regardless of race, gender, age, religion or any other factor, through community outreach activities plus daily public services of prayer. On average 1230 people use its facilities in Kilburn each week.
Its local community work includes free one to one advice sessions for anyone who is struggling with problems and wishes to talk them over. A Patient Care Group comprises volunteers who give their time to visit people who are housebound or in hospital, and need company. Other volunteers focus on supporting prison inmates and their families. And, a training centre also providing ESOL, CLAIT, ITQ and internet and new technologies courses.
The UCKG HelpCentre’s Kilburn Youth Group is currently helping over 120 young men and women through sporting and musical activities and by encouraging them to achieve their full potential as individuals and at work. In addition, a Senior Citizens Group provides companionship and support for members of the older generations.
