Friendships can influence a person’s decisions, for better or for worse. Certainly, if you walk alongside someone who complains too much and only has eyes for negative situations and everything that happens bad, you will be contaminated by the same negativity and feel the same symptoms. On the other hand, if you walk with someone who professes faith in the Lord Jesus and acts according to God’s teachings , you will surely be strengthened.
The Bible says:
“Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers.” Psalms 1.1
Based on the verse above, columnist Núbia Siqueira, in a post on the official blog of the writer Cristiane Cardoso , explained that anyone who wants to be upright must pay attention to their conduct, especially with regard to choosing their friends. According to her, the verbs to walk, to hold and to settle are used to reveal the different degrees of intimacy in our relationships.
each of the verbs
“Walking means more casual involvement with those who are out of tune with God. They are more distant friends, who promote desires and thoughts that go against spiritual health”, explains Núbia.
According to the columnist, the verb deter refers to a closer level of communion with people who are declared to be unfaithful, injurious and rebellious to the Word. “They are everywhere, which is why they will always cross our path, requiring our part to decide whether to settle down by their side or not.”
Nubia further explains that settling down implies being completely at ease among the unjust and mockers of the Gospel. This involvement becomes so dangerous that the words and ideas of evil are absorbed and incorporated, so that the good man becomes an obstinate to the error, equal to his “friend”.
Sin is a progressive thing. “One act, however harmless, tends to lead to another, until the person is suffering mired in mistakes. Thus, in addition to losing the joy that the career of faith provides, this person also becomes an accomplice and debtor of the bad actions of others. Think about it”, warns Núbia.
