On May 17th, one of the great exponents of American rock died. Chris Cornell was the founder of the bands Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog, in addition to having built a solid solo career in 33 years dedicated to music.
Despite the success, Cornell committed suicide by hanging, after a concert held in the city of Detroit, Michigan (United States). According to the singer’s wife, Vicky Cornell, he would never have taken that attitude if he had been aware of what he was doing. That’s why she believes that the medicine ingested by the singer influenced his decision.
“His world revolved around family first and, of course, music second” , Vicky declared on her social networks. “When we talked after the show, I noticed that he was speaking with difficulty; he was different. When he told me he might have taken a pill or two too many of his medicine, I contacted security and asked them to keep an eye on him.”
Chris Cornell was treated with an antidepressant indicated both to control anxiety and to inhibit chemical dependence. His attorney, Kirk Pasich, said the singer, “a recovering addict”, had a prescription for the drug and may have taken more than the recommended dose. According to Pasich, side effects of this drug include paranoid or suicidal thoughts, difficulty speaking, and poor judgment.
The British newspaper Daily Mail published that Cornell’s show with Soundgarden was successful and, after the presentation, the singer seemed happy to take several pictures with fans and sign autographs, including stating that he would see them in Columbus (capital of the state North American from Ohio), where the band had already scheduled another performance.
