“Do you not know that those who run in the stadium all run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way that you reach it. And everyone who fights from everything abstains; they do it to attain a corruptible crown; we, however, an incorruptible. For so I run, not as the uncertain thing; so I fight, not as beating the air.” (1 Corinthians 9.24-26)
Our spiritual life is like sport. Competitors train year-round to face the challenge of the final race.
However, our effort and dedication towards victory in the Lord Jesus does not last just 1 year, or just a period of time, but a lifetime.
There are many obstacles and trials that we face. Evil spirits use all their cunning to destabilize those who seek the presence of God . And yet there is the existence of human nature in our life, which is limited, as the Lord Jesus observes:
“Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation; indeed, the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26.41)
Bishop Edir Macedo advises: “In the past, no servant of the Most High, without exception, escaped trials until reaching the final test. Read the Bible to verify this. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Gideon, Jephthah, Samson, David, Daniel, in addition to all the other prophets, apostles and even the Lord Jesus. Those were not approved in competitions with others for offices, positions or medals offered by the world. Rather, they had to hope against hope and sustain their faith even at serious risk to their lives . They passed the tests of faith for the eternity of their souls.”
Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen our spirit daily, feeding ourselves with what comes from the Holy Spirit , because only then can we win the prize of Eternal Life, which is Salvation.
And as the apostle Paul warns in the verse at the beginning of this text, we must run in such a way that we reach this goal. Unlike the corruptible goods of this world, Salvation is eternal and certain. Those who dedicate themselves to achieving it know that constant commitment is necessary.
