Ben Stiller, Brangelina, Christine Taylor, come as a shock, future of true love, Hollywood, Matthew Broderick, Meet the Parents, Rita Wilson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Tom Hanks,
Just as we were beginning to think there were enough breakups in Hollywood, Meet the Parents star Ben Stiller and his wife of 17 years, Christine Taylor, have split up.
Releasing a joint statement, they said:
‘With tremendous love and respect for each other, and the 18 years we spend together as a couple, we have made the decision to separate. Our priority will continue to be raising our children as devoted parents and the closest of friends. We kindly ask that the media respect our privacy at this time.’
The couple met in 1999 whilst Ben was developing a pilot that Christine was to star in. They started dating in April and got married in May 2000, and they have two children together – a daughter, Ella, aged 15, and a son, Quinlin, aged 11.
Their separation has come as a shock, as they are known for having one of the most stable and long-lasting marriages in Hollywood, along with other stars such as Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, who have been married since 1988, and Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, who have been married since 1997.
From the infamous Brangelina split to Gwyneth Patrol’s ‘uncoupling’ from her ex-husband, it seems that the future of true love in the world of Hollywood is bleak. However, it’s not only in the world of glamour that relationships aren’t working. In the UK, 42% of marriages end in divorce, and it doesn’t seem like this figure will be decreasing any time soon.
The big question is: Why are so many relationships breaking down? Are Hollywood stars destined for doomed relationships? Is the ability to keep a relationship going becoming lost to us?
There are many answers to these questions, but one is that the world of love is a battlefield and only those who fight will have a fighting chance of survival.
Why do you think so many relationships are breaking down both in Hollywood and in the wider world?
