The new UCKG HelpCentre at 12 Regent Street, Leeds LS2 opens its doors to the local community for the first time on Saturday, January 31, when three services of inauguration will be held – at 10am, 3pm and 6pm.

Describing itself as ‘far more than a church’, the charity’s aims are to provide practical, emotional and spiritual support for all-comers and help for people wanting to make a new start, whatever their situation in life.

The opening is the culmination of six years of hard work searching for the suitable property for a full-time HelpCentre, including viewings of over 30 properties in central areas of Leeds, and a six month refurbishment programme.

As a result the former retail warehouse now boasts an impressive main auditorium seating 300 and a secondary auditorium for 150 people. A dedicated area has been created for the youth group, VYG, along with facilities for the UCKG HelpCentre’s community groups, and for children whose parents are visiting the HelpCentre.

Extensive multimedia resources have been installed to support the work of the HelpCentre’s pastors and volunteers and enhance the experience for those taking advantage of its services. In addition, a bookshop and coffee shop are provided in the reception area.

The UCKG HelpCentre arrived in Leeds some years ago and has built up a following of around 200 attendees for its Sunday services. In view of this level of demand, the new HelpCentre will provide daily prayer services at 7am, 10am, 3pm and 7.30pm from February 1, onwards, together with the full range of support activities, as are available in all 27 UCKG HelpCentres nationwide.

These will include free drop-in one-to-one advice sessions and community groups providing assistance to seniors, youths, single parents, abuse victims, and prison inmates or former inmates and their families.

Paul Hill, Head of Public Relations said: “We are looking forward to the inauguration enormously. A number of bishops and pastors together with members from different parts of the UK will be declaring their support for Leeds by joining in.

“Each service will include motivational messages, real life stories from people currently attending other HelpCentres and information about what we’re offering at the new Leeds HelpCentre, along with prayers. I can promise attendees an interesting, informative and inspirational occasion and the potential for life-enhancing benefits.”
